Muscle Building Supplements

Muscle building is the act of tearing down muscle fibers by way of exercise and letting them repair back bigger and stronger. Nutrient, water, rest, and proper programming all play into this equation. Below are some tips that can help aid in increasing the recovery process by way of supplementation thus helping to build more muscle.


Protein, an important macro nutrient responsible for the repair of damaged cells (this can help increase muscle mass post exercise). While most of the required protein amount (1.4g to 1.8g for each kilogram of bodyweight NSCA Nelson,2018) can be obtained by food intake sometimes due to protein requirements or calorie restrictions protein supplements can be a useful tool to have. Most of my protein supplementation recommendations are based on availability, affordability, quality control, and protein per calories. For whey protein (best quality of protein if you are not intolerant of whey) I would suggest OPTIMUM NUTRITION 100% WHEY PROTEIN and for those that are intolerant of whey I would suggest OPTIMUM NUTRITION 100% PLANT BASED PROTEIN.


Another supplement that can help increase muscle building by way of increasing your strength is OPTIMUM NUTRITION MICRONIZED CREATINE, creatine (can be found in some meats and seeds but at low amounts) has been show to increase strength and increase performance over numerous studies and is probably one of the most researched supplements.


All this to say to keep in mind that supplements are used to supplement proper diet, rest, and exercise programming but can still help unlock the next level of benefits as long as the basics of muscle building are being meet.
